Why a mercury thermometer to the temperature?
I bought a few days ago. It's a thermometer inside cheap outdoor hanging outside the window. Said this morning 99 degrees and now it says 90. Its definitely about only 80 and this morning was probably in the low 70s. What is the cause? All I think is that this morning the sun shone on him, but I think that actually raises the temperature.
Upload a glass thermometer in direct sunlight causes errors in the temperature reading. There are two main reasons: 1. acts as a curved glass lens and creates a concentration of heat inside the tube where the mercury (or other liquid) is 2. Heating the glass creates a change in the shape and size of holes inside the glass tube so that the mercury unpredicatble adopt a position unrelated to the outdoor temperature current. Hang the thermometer in the shade and you will get the termperature in the shade. Who is a better measure of the environmental condition of any way. I hope this is helpful.
